High-Pressure Wafer-Type Butterfly valve
The high-pressure wafer-type butterfly valve is a lightweight flow control device designed for industrial pipeline systems operating under high-pressure and space-constrained conditions. With its ultra-thin valve body and advanced high-pressure sealing technology, it offers compact size, low weight, and flexible operation. It is widely used in oil drilling, high-pressure hydraulic systems, and chemical hydrogenation units where installation space and pressure resistance are critical.
Core Structure and Sealing Principle
The valve features an ultra-thin body design, with thickness only one-third to one-half that of conventional butterfly valves of the same diameter. The body is typically manufactured from high-strength forged steel, stainless steel, or alloy steel to withstand high-pressure media impact. The disc adopts a streamlined thin-plate structure, reducing flow resistance and improving flow efficiency.
The sealing system mainly uses a metal hard-seal structure. The disc and seat sealing surfaces are overlaid with hard materials such as tungsten carbide or Stellite alloys and combined with double-eccentric or triple-eccentric designs. During opening and closing, the disc disengages from the seat through eccentric movement without friction, preventing seal wear. When closed, the eccentric torque generates forced sealing pressure, ensuring tight metal-to-metal contact. Some designs incorporate flexible graphite packing for auxiliary sealing, achieving ISO 15848-1 Class A zero-leakage performance under high-pressure conditions.
The valve stem is equipped with a blowout-proof design and anti-static grounding device, along with high-pressure packing systems to prevent media leakage and static buildup, ensuring safe operation.

Advantages for High-Pressure Applications
Excellent Pressure Resistance: Rated for pressures from PN100 to PN420 (Class 600 to Class 2500), suitable for long-term operation in high-pressure liquid and gas systems, including hydraulic pipelines and oil and gas wellheads.
Space-Saving Installation: Ultra-thin body combined with flanged or wafer-type connections minimizes installation space requirements, making it ideal for compact equipment and confined pipe racks while reducing installation costs.
Flexible Operation: Low operating torque enables manual, pneumatic, or electric actuation. Electric models with intelligent positioners allow precise flow regulation, while emergency shut-off response time can be ≤1 second, supporting automated control systems.
Corrosion and Wear Resistance: Optional anti-corrosion coatings protect the body and disc, while metal-seated designs resist erosion from media containing fine particles. Mechanical service life exceeds 30,000 cycles, ensuring long-term reliability under high-pressure conditions.
Typical Applications
High-pressure wafer-type butterfly valves are commonly used in high-pressure drilling mud pipelines on offshore and onshore oil and gas platforms, feed lines for chemical hydrogenation reactors, high-pressure hydraulic circuit control, and coolant circulation pipelines in nuclear power plants. They are essential for flow control and emergency shut-off in high-pressure, space-limited environments.
